If you are getting a lap top for a child, you might be concerned that they will not take care of it well. They might drop it and not treat it as they should and for that reason you you would like to spend as little as possible. Deciding ot get a refurbished laptop is one way to calm your fears as you will be spending less and still getting a quality laptop. There are some great refurbished laptops out there that will work just as well as a new one.
Are refurbished laptops a better or worse deal that buying one brand new? Many people ask that question because they really don't understand what the word refurbished means. As a result, they miss out on ever getting a refurbished computer that will probably work just as well as a new one at much less the cost.
What refurbished usually means is that it has been returned by a customer for any number of reasons. When a laptop is returned to a store, it is then sent back to the manufacturer who will try to fix the problem. Many times the problem is a very minor one like something being wrong with the screen. Once the problem is fixed the laptop is then shipped back to the store and where it must be sold as "refurbished". What this means is that a refurbished laptop is never new but can be in "like new" condition. You can often get good deals on these computers which are for all practical purposes new.
Generally, if you buy a refurbished laptop, you want to make sure it comes with a full warranty in case something goes wrong. You never know what went wrong the first time to make it refurbished and it could be as little as a scratch on the case. But if you do buy anything that is refurbished you need to get that warranty.
You can be confident that refurbished computers have been tested and gone over by the manufacturer. They have no reason and will lose more money if they send it back out without being fixed. Your school aged child doesn't need the most expensive laptop but just something to help with the schoolwork. For this type of use, refurbished laptops are a great choice and the risk is minimal. To find refurbished laptops, you can go online to a site like Ebay where you will find hundreds of them and all from the top companies. This is where many companies sell their laptops to the highest bidders and it is where you might be able to get a great deal.
